Description
It’s heavy-metal ground zero:Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut. The beginning of it all. Forty minutes of groundbreakingperfection, as revelatory today as it was when it was released in the grimwinter of1970 fromOzzyOsbourne’sotherworldly yowl andTonyIommi’s immortal riffs toGeezer Butler’s rumbling bass lines and occult-tinged lyrics, and Bill Ward’s thundering drums. Doom metal and stoner rock owe the album a particular debt, but theres no heavy subgenre that doesnt bear its mark. Revolver Staff
