Converge had already proven themselves to be one of the most fearless, genre-shifting units in hardcore by the mid-2000s, and then they released Axe to Fall in 2009. Featuring a murderer’s row of guest musicians (members of Neurosis, Blacklisted, Cave In and more) and a sludgier yet also poppier sound, Axe to Fall is one of Converge’s landmark albums.
