Verve, 1956
Billie Holiday’s iconic 1956 Lady Sings the Blues is an emotional journey through the ups and downs of life and love. Holidays soulful voice, backed by an all-star band, brings to life the pain and joy of her experience. From the heart-wrenching “Good Morning Heartache” to the bluesy “Fine and Mellow,” Holiday delivers each song with passion and conviction. The title track, like the entire album, is a hauntingly beautiful testament to her struggles and triumphs as a woman and artist.
