This year marks the40th anniversaryof rock and roll giantsKissand, in trueKissfashion, the band plan to make 2014 the biggest and loudest, non-stop rock and roll party of the century. Millions of people around the world originally discoveredKisswhen they brought home an album and put it on their turntable for the first time. Kisswas the first signing to Neil Bogarts Casablanca Records in 1973, offering them a contract on the spot after seeing them perform in New York City. Their self-titled debut would propel the band to the top of the rock and roll hierarchy where they have reigned for the past four decades, selling over 100 million albums worldwide.Kisswill be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in April 2014, proof of the unparalleled devotion and loyalty of the Kiss Army to the Hottest Band in the World.
Hot on the heels of the breakthrough live albumAlive!,Kissreleased their fourth albumDestroyer, the most ambitious studio recording of the band’s ’70s catalog.Bob Ezrin, who had previously worked withAlice Cooper, was brought in to produce the album and among the production flourishes Ezrin introduced toKisswere sound effects, strings, a childrens choir, reversed drumming and the eerie, echoing sounds of screaming children over Gene Simmons vocals on God of Thunder.
Upon its release,Destroyerreached the No. 11 position on the Billboard Top 200 and, with the help of the surprise top-10 hit Beth, was their first studio album to go platinum. Originally released as the B-side to the single Detroit Rock City, the heart-yearning ballad co-written and performed by drummer Peter Criss, was quickly picked up by radio nationwide and became the first top 10 forKiss, climbing all the way to the No. 7 position.
To this day,Destroyerremains one of the groups most fully realized recordings and greatest accomplishments. The album has been listed as one of the “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time” by both Kerrang! and Guitar World and it’s also featured on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
