The opening notes of Melvins seventh full-length release have guitarist Buzz Osborne unwinding his guitar strings towards an inky sludge tuning, setting the stage for one of the Pacific Northwest legends heaviest efforts. Rowdy, Southern blues-metal send up Revolve may stand as one of the trios catchiest and thus most popular songs, but Stoner Witch is still profoundly weird in all the right places. From its gloom-moshed Skweetis, to the Spaghetti Western whistling passages of Roadbull to the Bud-spitting punk-strumental Junebug, theres an inspired zaniness to the album that demands to be spun on repeat.
